Crafting an Individual Development Plan

The Essential Skills series returns for the 2024-2025 academic year.

On the fourth Tuesday of each month, 12-1 p.m. Eastern Time, the series will cover a different topic to help you succeed in your postdoc and beyond. Topics will range from creating a training and career plan, exploring career options, networking, leveraging LinkedIn and more.

August's session will focus on crafting an Individual Development Plan (IDP). During this session attendees will learn about the value of using an IDP to map out training and scholarly milestones for postdoctoral training and beyond, including preparing for a career's next step. As IDPs have become a requirement for all graduate students and postdocs supported by National Science Foundation grants submitted after May 2024, this session will be beneficial in understanding how to help others craft their IDPs, preparing attendees for responsibilities that come with leading an independent research group in the future.
