How long have you been in your postdoctoral position at Virginia Tech?
Began in September 2023
Briefly describe the research project you are working on as a postdoctoral associate at Virginia Tech. What is the problem you are addressing? What is the expected impact of your work?
My current research focuses on how milk production is controlled in cow mammary cells. The main goal of the project is to fill the gap in our understanding of the specific genes and proteins involved in regulating milk and protein production at the cellular level. By identifying and studying these essential components, we aim to uncover the complex network governing milk synthesis.
This research is important for advancing our understanding of mammary gland biology and has broader implications for improving livestock productivity and milk quality. Ultimately, our work aims to contribute to sustainable and efficient milk production practices, potentially benefiting both the agricultural industry and human nutrition.
Why did you choose to pursue postdoctoral training at Virginia Tech?
I chose to pursue my post-doctoral training at Virginia Tech due to its recognition as a leading institution in the field of agriculture. The laboratory facilities and research capabilities available align perfectly with the needs for advancing and enriching my research development. Additionally, my familiarity with the institution facilitated a smooth transition from a doctoral degree to a postdoctoral position.
What are your career goals?
My career aspirations lie in being an animal scientist specializing in dairy science.
How do you see the resources available to postdoctoral associates at Virginia Tech generally and via this program specifically being helpful to your career and professional development?
The knowledge acquired through this program will play a crucial role in instructing me on how to effectively navigate various grant opportunities. This preparation will ensure that I am well-equipped to submit compelling proposals in the future. Additionally, the program will be essential for building connections with past and present postdoctoral scholars, providing valuable networking opportunities.
