Editing Videos After Published: How-To
The below process is to be used if you need to edit a video that is currently uploaded to video.vt.edu. An example would be that a title card needs to be placed at the beginning of the video.
Navigate to https://video.vt.edu/ and login if needed.
Click your name in the upper-right.
Click "My Media".
Scroll down to the video that you wish to edit and click the "pencil" icon to the far right of it to access editing options.
You will need to download the video file to edit it. To do so, you will need to enable the download of the file. Click "Downloads".
Click the "HD/1080 - WEB (H264/4000)" option.
Click "Save".
Click "Go To Media".
Once on the media page for the video, Click the "Download" tab.
Click the down arrow/download icon under "Actions". You will then be prompted to download the file to your computer.
Once download is complete, you will then need to go back into the page editing properties to disable downloads of the video. Click the "Actions" dropdown.
Click "Edit".
Click the "Downloads" tab.
Click the "HD/1080 - WEB (H264/4000)" field to uncheck it from the selection.
Click "Save".
At this point you would then go into your video editing software of choice and add a title slide to the video. It is recommended to have the slide show for at least 8-10 seconds to give the user ample time to read the slide. Once you have added the slide and saved/exported the video, it is now time to move on to the upload process.
Navigate back to your video's page on video.vt.edu. Go into the editing properties, and click the "Replace Media" tab (this will be further right from the "Downloads" tab you clicked earlier. Follow the upload process to replace the media.
Example below: User is prompted to click "Choose a file to upload" when replacing media.
Tip: Tip! Using the "Replace Media" option will allow the video's page URL on video.vt.edu to stay the same, thus allowing anyone that may have bookmarked the link to still see the updated video, or for any pages linking to it to not have a broken link to the video. As the new video is uploading, the old one will be available until the new video finishes uploading and processing on the server.
