Odie Fthenos

Responsibilities

Odie Fthenos serves as the director of finance for the Office of Research and Innovation. Fthenos provides guidance to Dan Sui and the senior leadership team on current and future financial plans in support of the university strategic plan. Responsibilities include budget planning and administration, fiscal compliance, and collaborating with units and stakeholders in facility and administrative costs, service center rates, proposal cost share, startup resources, and shared use equipment funding. 

Background

Fthenos has over 20 years of experience in finance and accounting related positions across industries such as higher education, retail, government contracting, real estate, construction and manufacturing. Previously, he was the controller for Virginia Tech Services and director of accounting and financial reporting for the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. He has also held leadership positions in private industry including serving as chief financial officer for a government contractor.

Education

Fthenos holds bachelor degrees in finance and accounting and a master’s degree in accounting; all from Virginia Tech. In addition, Fthenos is a licensed certified public accountant in the state of Virginia.
