Responsibilities

Kim Skroupa joined the Animal Care and Use Program in 2022 as a protocol coordinator.

Background

After graduating from Virginia Tech, Kim joined the Teaching and Research Animal Care Support Service (TRACSS) unit within the College of Veterinary Medicine.  While there, she gained her certification as a registered laboratory animal technologist (RLATG) in 2013 and held a variety of roles that developed her experience with project and facility management, program development, IACUC protocol compliance, and training of animal care and research staff.  She also worked with a variety of laboratory and agricultural animal species used for teaching and research, with a heavy emphasis on gnotobiotic swine.

Kim developed her administrative and management skills by spending a few years working as the veterinary clinic manager for the Charlottesville-Albemarle Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Her experience working in different environments with a variety of species using IACUC protocols makes her a great addition to the Animal Care and Use Program.

Education

Kim holds a Bachelor of Science in animal and poultry sciences from Virginia Tech.
