Each year, the Fulbright U.S. Scholar program offers diverse opportunities for U.S. academics, administrators and professionals to teach, research, conduct professional projects, and attend seminars abroad in over 135 countries. Nicole Sanderlin, director of global engagement for the College of Engineering and Fulbright Scholar liaison, hosted this information session covering Fulbright award opportunities and the application process. Speakers included a member of the Provost’s Office to discuss fellowship leave, and a panel of former Fulbright grantees at Virginia Tech sharing their application experiences and tips. This event was part of Virginia Tech’s International Education Week 2023.

A picture really is worth a thousand words. Graphic design plays an important role in communicating complex ideas. During this one-hour session, viewers will learn the fundamentals of “good” design and the importance visual graphics play when conveying information that needs to be seen and easily understood by different audience types. The session will cover design processes, do’s and don’ts, and software used to create icons, infographics, and visualizations. Viewers will also see examples from various projects, proposals, publications, presentations, and websites, most created for students and researchers at Virginia Tech. Design is everywhere and how you present your research and data matters.

On Mar. 8, 2023, Executive Director Eric Paterson provided an overview of the National Security Institute including its origins, aspirations, and research activities. Faculty from NSI lead a town hall style discussion about opportunities for Virginia Tech researchers to collaborate with the Institute. Successful partnerships were highlighted along with information on how to become involved with NSI’s research divisions.
