IACUC-Related Training
IACUC-Related Training For Virginia Tech Researchers, Students, Employees and Visiting Researchers
Virginia Tech is committed to a high standard of animal care and use and a high standard of occupational health and safety for its faculty, staff, and students. Quality training and educational activities are essential to help us to meet and exceed these standards.
Virginia Tech requires that animal users and handlers complete four training elements before the processing of a protocol will begin.
Note: If a user does not have a Virginia Tech PID, they must register here as a guest user before taking training. The registered guest ID should be used as username/identifier when completing training requirements. Protocol will not be processed until all requirements are met for each person listed on the study.
1) Core And Refresher IACUC Training
Virginia Tech utilizes the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Learning Library course Working with the IACUC for this training requirement. The entire AALAS Learning Library is also available for further education on topics that are not covered by the required trainings. New personnel should contact the IACUC office if they have already completed this or another course that may fulfill this requirement.

Verification of Training
To verify completion of trainings, visit IACUC Protocol Management System to view training records and the training status of all persons on any IACUC protocol with which you are associated to ensure training is complete. Multi-level Approach to Required Training
To meet individual researchers' needs, while still providing compliance assurance in the area of training, a multi-level approach to training can and should be used. All researchers and staff using animals in teaching or research, and students using animals in research must receive basic uniform compliance training.
