Message from the Senior Vice President of Research and Innovation

Dear colleagues,

Spring is often seen as a time to let go of the old and embrace the new, much like nature sheds its winter dormancy to emerge in new life.

During this time of change and uncertainty regarding federally sponsored research, I wanted to remind you that we might embrace the opportunity to think differently about the way we conduct research. A quarter of our portfolio comes from sponsors outside the federal government and 30% of Virginia Tech’s portfolio includes a partnership with a company, university, or another organization. This is promising and we will continue to bolster this area of research. Our 360-degree partnerships are as essential as ever, and Virginia Tech excels in this transformative space.

I remain grateful for your patience and enduring dedication to your research. With university leadership, my office has been monitoring the evolving situation, including executive actions and congressional budget actions.

As a reminder, take time to visit the Federal Agency Updates for up-to-date information and resources, including answers to questions about Virginia Tech policies relevant to foreign assistance.

Also, here are a few recent internal and external messages that may be of interest to you:

Thank you for all you do and for your commitment to Virginia Tech. Please take care of yourself and those around you.

Warm regards,

Daniel Sui
Senior Vice President and Chief Research and Innovation Officer
